The Foundation for the Montessori community in Mumbai was laid in 1987 when Ms. Zarin Malva began the first certified training program for teachers, under Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), an organization founded by Dr. Maria Montessori. This program, now hosted at the Ratan Tata Institute, has been instrumental in the proliferation of Montessori schools and the development of a vibrant community in Mumbai. Each year, numerous students complete the course, embarking on careers as educators, counselors, and even founding their own schools. As the sole internationally recognized Montessori program in Mumbai, graduates also find employment opportunities in schools overseas.
On Sunday, March 17th, the Montessori community in Mumbai will gather for a walk along Carter Road Promenade in Bandra. This event celebrates the Montessori philosophy, renowned for its distinctive approach to education and child development. From nurturing self-directed learning to fostering a spirit of exploration and discovery, Montessori empowers children to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. Its principles prioritize independence, creativity, and holistic growth in every child’s journey. By participating in this walk, parents, educators, and community members unite to advocate this powerful philosophy thus contributing to a larger conversation about the future of education.
All are welcome to join, so let’s walk towards a brighter tomorrow, where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential through the principles of Montessori education. We look forward to seeing you there!
